Automated dividend adjustments for CFDs

What Are Dividends?

A dividend is a portion of a company's profits distributed to its shareholders. It is a way for companies to share their financial success with the owners of the stock.

For traders holding CFD positions, this corporate action affects the underlying asset's price. The market price of a stock or index typically drops by approximately the dividend amount on the ex-dividend date. Our dividend adjustment mechanism exists to fairly account for this price change in your CFD account, ensuring your position value reflects the market.

Understanding
Dividend Adjustments?

When a company in an index or a stock you hold pays a dividend, the value of that asset typically decreases by the dividend amount on the ex-dividend date. To reflect this market mechanism in your CFD positions, we apply a corresponding adjustment to your account.

How Dividend Adjustments Are Calculated

To maintain fair market pricing, dividend adjustments are processed daily. The adjustment is applied
as an aggregated credit or debit to your account for all open positions on a specific instrument at the
end of the trading day before its ex-dividend date.

Long Position (Buy)

If you are holding a long (buy) position, you will receive a credit to your account.

Example:

A trader holds 20 long lots in NAS100. A dividend adjustment of $3.55 per lot is applied.

  • While the index value drops, the trader is compensated for this corporate action.
  • Credit to Account: 20 lots × $3.55 = $71.00

This credit offsets the price drop, leaving the trader's overall position value neutral.

Short Position (Sell)

If you are holding a short (sell) position, a debit will be applied to your account.

Example:

A trader holds 20 short lots in NAS100. The same dividend adjustment of -$3.55 per lot is applied.

  • While the index value drops (benefiting a short position), the trader is charged for the dividend.
  • Debit from Account: 20 lots × $3.55 = $71.00

This debit neutralizes the unfair advantage, leaving the trader's overall position value neutral.
